Since 6000 BC
Wine begins here.
Archaeologists found grape residue in clay vessels in the South Caucasus dating to 6000 BC, which makes Georgia the oldest continuous winemaking culture on earth. Roughly 500 indigenous grape varieties grow here, almost none of them anywhere else, and the qvevri method used to make them has been listed by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2013.
